Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern celebrates 1-year anniversary in Dana Point, CA

When restaurants make it past the 1-year mark, it’s always a celebration. The restaurant business is very hard work. The vast majority of restaurants never make it past the first year. Fortunately, Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern has the formula to sustain with a great location and fantastic food, especially since
Dana Point is their second location. Their first location in San Diego is still going strong since its opening in 2010.

Jimmy’s culinary interests started out of necessity when his mother passed away when he was only 5 years old. His father, an Air Force Colonel, had 3 mouths to feed and learned very quickly how to do so. As Jimmy and his siblings got older, they needed to cook for themselves. A culinary mashing of his dad’s short order cooking and his Jamaican nanny’s bold flavors, Jimmy created food all his own – hotdam-delicious food at that. Jimmy’s takes American regional classics and makes them appealing to the everyday diner to the expert foodie palate.

They also have an awesome green philosophy using locally raised, organic, and sustainable foods. Dana Point’s location is perfect with the Pacific Ocean across the street and great local farms in Orange County. Only the best is used to create the dishes you will eat. Green also flows into the to-go packaging, landscaping, composting, and recycling.

Here’s a look at some of the great eats you might experience:

Sofia’s Skinny Margarita is made with Partida Blanco, agave nectar, muddled citrus, cucumber, and mint. It is very smooth and sweet. The cucumber adds a refreshing flavor and the muddled citrus adds a nice zing. Perfectly suited for the beach! Rating: 4/5
