Big Sky, MT: Western Yosemite and Game Cuisine, Day 2

6 AM: Chirping birds heralded a new day as the early morning sun crested the mountains on Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, MT. As I slid down my bed that was built to be quite high off the ground for someone of my stature, the cold floor shocked my warm toes as I hurriedly ran for the carpeted floor. Southern Californians are so spoiled with our great weather and the cold seemed out of place in September.

7 AM: A hearty ranch-style breakfast at Lone Mountain Ranch awaited us in the dining room. We were the first ones in for breakfast as they were putting the final touches on the breakfast buffet. The buffet is reminiscent of the balance of protein and carbs to start the day on a ranch:

  • Toast and bagels with cream cheese, butter, and fruit preserves
  • Fresh made in-house doughnuts with cinnamon and sugar or powdered sugar
  • Fresh fruit like fresh cut cantaloupe and oranges, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries
  • Hot items like home-style potatoes, crispy bacon (the best I’ve ever had), sausage, Denver-style scramble with heirloom tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms
