Hard Rock Café Philadelphia showcases pieces of music history

Hard Rock Café in Philadelphia opened on January 15, 1998. It is located in the historic Reading Terminal Station, just blocks away from Independence Hall. We always make a point of stopping by a Hard Rock Café not only to eat, but pick up a lapel pin for me and a shot glass for the hubby. We arrived in Philadelphia in the late afternoon and decided to eat at the Hard Rock Café for dinner since it was only a couple of blocks away from our hotel. First, we perused the gift shop and picked up our souvenirs, then off to the dining room. I found a framed kick drum wrap belonging to drummer, Jon Moss, from The Culture Club. I am a HUGE 1980’s music fan so “it was like totally rad” to see this by our table. I had Boy George singing “Time won’t give me time…” in my head for the entire duration of the meal.

Classic Nachos are supposed to be tortilla chips piled high and layered with a three bean mix, Monterey Jack and cheddar cheeses, pico de gallo, jalapenos, green onions, and garnished with sour cream. When the plate came to the table, the nachos were flat and looked as if the chips were left under a salamander too long. Some of the cheese and tortilla chips were burnt. If we weren’t so hungry, we would have sent it back. The parts that were not burnt were okay enough to snack on until our dinner arrived. Rating: 1/5

Fiesta Burger is on a toasted brioche bun layered with roasted jalapeno salsa, melted Jack cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo, lettuce, and tomato. My burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare and juicy. The jack cheese was okay. I think using a queso fresco or cojita cheese would bring the flavors in the burger together with a bit more saltiness. The roasted jalapeno salsa was okay. It needs more kick and salt to boost the flavor. Also, the guacamole was not freshly made as it was brownish-green which means it was holding too long in the back. I was also disappointed in the amount of French fries that were served – about 15 total fries on the plate. Rating: 3/5

Hickory-Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich is hand-pulled smoked pork with hickory barbeque sauce on toasted brioche. The pork was very dry. The barbeque sauce helped, but the meat should really hold in the pork juices before plating. Although the French fry portion was small, this sandwich did come with barbeque beans and cole slaw. Rating: 3/5

The food may not knock your socks off, but memorabilia and gift shop will. Stop by Hard Rock Café Philadelphia and see a piece of music history.
