The menu items in this post were provided by Jimmy’s Famous
American Tavern but the opinions expressed here are my own.
Jimmy’s
Famous American Tavern has been a favorite of mine since 2013. Although, I had
only been to JFAT for lunch and dinner, I have been very curious about their
brunch menu. My friend, Wendy Chen of Wendyful
World, kept posting pictures of brunch with her hubby at J-FAT. Every time
I would see their pictures, I would start drooling. No joke! They love JFAT as
much as I do so I knew I had to try it STAT!
Let’s
take a look at some of JFAT’s tasty brunch items:
Another
Tequila Sunrise ($10) is made with El
Jimador Tequila, orange juice, and pomegranate juice. It was a beautiful
drink with the colors of a sunset from orange to red. It could have been a
little sweeter as it was too sour. Rating: 3.5/5
TOTS
($9) is a large skillet of tater tots with your choice of toppings to share. We
went with chili, cheese sauce, and scallions. The tots were crispy on the
outside, tender on the inside, and surprisingly not greasy. The chili was
hearty and had a comfortable heat level. The cheese sauce was rich, savory, and
homemade. The hubby was skeptical at first of these tots due to nightmares of
cafeteria lunches when he was in grade school, but JFAT converted him. He
absolutely loved them! Rating: 4.8/5
The
Bubba ($17) is a house made buttermilk biscuit filled with fried chicken,
cheddar, Applewood smoked bacon, sausage gravy, and a sunny side egg. The hubby
got it spiced up “Nashville Hot” style. This was a tasty brunch dish, savory
with touches of sweetness from the biscuit. Although it was a mouth-watering
dish, it was not as spicy as anticipated. Since it was served open-faced, it was
easier to eat with a fork and knife versus picking up as a sandwich. Rating:
4.8/5
Hangover
Burger ($18) is a New York Sirloin patty topped with cheddar, bacon, green
chile, and fried egg atop a house made buttermilk biscuit. I LOVE the flavor of
the biscuit, but it was a little too crumbly to use as a bun for a burger. The
slightly sweet flavor from the biscuit worked well with the savory flavors of
the juicy burger, smoky bacon, gooey cheese, and rich yolk. The green chile
lent nice flavor without being too spicy. Rating: 4.8/5
Dark
Chocolate Pot de Crème ($8) is topped with Grand Marnier cream. This is
definitely a dessert for the chocolate lover! The chocolate was in full force
with dark, rich flavor although the cream did lighten up the richness of the
chocolate. Scoop from the bottom to top for each bite as there were different textures
to experience from the creamy mousse-like top to the chocolate “sediment” at
the bottom that quickly melts away as it hits your tongue. This paired
perfectly with a cup of coffee. Rating: 4.7/5
