Small batch quality equals perfection at Atticus Creamery & Pies in Los Angeles, California

Iris Kim wanted to start a business using her business degree from USC and certification from Le Cordon Bleu. In December 2014, Atticus Creamery & Pies became the perfect meld of both worlds with handcrafted ice creams and pies made in small batches made fresh daily.

Pies are made with only butter, flour, and other raw natural ingredients. They are free from preservatives and food additives. Atticus Creamery & Pies creates each element of a pie from making their own caramel popcorn, cookies, and fruit jams. Each pie consists of 4 layers: bottom layer (chocolate ganache, fruit jam, etc.), filling (flavored cheesecake or pastry cream), light whipped cream, and decorative toppings. What makes these pies so amazing is the crust!

Salted Caramel Classic Pie is filled with homemade caramel mousse, bottom filled with chocolate ganache, topped with light cream and caramelized popcorn. The caramel mousse is subtle in flavor almost like a light butterscotch. It is creamy and velvety in texture. The caramelized popcorn is amazing! It is reminiscent of Cracker Jacks with rich caramel wrapped around each popcorn kernel. Rating: 4.5/5

Coconut Banana Classic Pie is filled with homemade custard with chunks of banana, topped with coconut custard, light cream and toasted coconut. The custard is more like rich pastry cream with silky texture. The fresh bananas blend well with the coconut flavor for a more tropical take on banana cream pie. Rating: 5/5

Blackberry Cheesecake Pie is filled with lemon cheesecake, bottom filled with blackberry jam, topped with light cream, blueberry sauce, and fresh blackberry. The cheesecake is light and has a subtle blackberry flavor. It is neither too tart nor too sweet. Rating: 4/5

Blueberry Cheesecake Pie is filled with blueberry cheesecake, bottom filled with blueberry jam, topped with light cream, blueberry sauce, and fresh blueberries. The cheesecake is light and is reminiscent of Asian-style cream cheese fillings. It packs in a good amount of blueberry flavor. Rating: 5/5

Raspberry Cheesecake Pie is filled with raspberry cheesecake, bottom filled with chocolate ganache, topped with light cream, and fresh raspberry. The cheesecake is light and fluffy. It is a little tart from the raspberry. Rating: 4/5

Oreo Cheesecake Pie is filled with Oreo cheesecake, topped with light cream and Oreo cookie. The cheesecake is light. The Oreo flavor is subtle and not too sweet. Rating: 4.5/5

Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Special Pie is made with chocolate mousse cream, bottom filled with peanut butter, topped with light cream and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. The chocolate mousse cream is rich and decadent. The peanut butter makes for the perfect marriage of flavors. Rating: 5/5

Strawberry Pistachio Special Pie is filled with strawberry cream mousse, bottom filled with pistachio cream, topped with light cream, and fresh strawberry. The strawberry and pistachio creams are reminiscent of an Italian parfait with a very slight gelatin quality. It is bright and refreshing. Rating: 5/5

Here are a few of the Ice Cream Flavors (May 2015):

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana is amazing! Decadent chocolate ice cream flavor meets creamy peanut butter. The two flavors converge with fresh banana for an “Elvis” experience. It just needs some bacon. “Thank you! Thank you very much!” Rating: 5/5

Honey Honeycomb sounds very weird, but is actually really great. The creamy vanilla base meets swirls of honey and honeycomb for different textural experiences. The honey in its viscous form is like caramel. The honeycomb is crystallized with crunchy sugar crystal goodness. It’s just amazing and no wonder why it is their best-selling ice cream flavor. Rating: 5/5

Brownie a la Mode tastes exactly like it sounds. But instead of the vanilla ice cream on top, the brownie is mixed into the ice cream. The brownie pieces are rich and decadent. Rating: 5/5
