Mendocino Farms UC Irvine opens on Monday, June 8, 2015

Mendocino Farms is all about eating seasonally and locally. They show how easy it is to incorporate local produce into sandwiches, salads, and soups. Mendocino Farms reconstructs “fine dining” entrees to the sandwich level and adds a modern twist to classic regional sandwiches. They support the Slow Food Movement and Sustainable Farming that inspires a love for artisan food and drink.

Mendocino Farms UC Irvine will officially open its doors on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 11am. Be one of the first in line to experience this second Orange County location. Here are some items you might want to try:

Steak BLT contains carved steak, prime Applewood bacon, romaine lettuce, roasted tomatoes, herb aioli, and red wine onions on toasted rustic bread. The steak was a little dry but had really good flavor. The Applewood smoked bacon added a crunchy texture and smoky flavor making it more like a BBQ beef sandwich without the mess of BBQ sauce. Rating: 4/5

The Italian “Love Sandwich” is made with prime honey ham, fennel salami, housemade spicy giardiniera, herb aioli, provolone, tomatoes, and romaine lettuce on a soft roll. The ham was a little subtle in flavor. The salami had a brighter cured flavor and really made the sandwich. Rating: 4/5

Drunk’n Goat on Highway 128 contains Herbes de Provence marinated Drake Family Farm’s goat cheese, French brie, cranberry chutney, green apples, and Scarborough Farm’s greens on cranberry walnut bread. Now, this was an awesome sandwich! There were a good mix of flavors and textures – creamy goat cheese and brie, sweet cranberries, and crisp, tart green apples. The bread really made the sandwich with it hearty thick cut and mix of walnut and cranberry flavors. Rating: 4.5/5
