On February 19, 2017, Left
Coast Brewing Company threw a lovely anniversary party for their Tasting Room.
An afternoon of beer, music, Mexican food, and fun for all who helped celebrate.
Here’s a rundown of the beers
that my hubby tasted:
Galaxy Supernova IPA is a
single hop India Pale Ale made 4 times per year. 6.5% ABV, 53.9 IBU. Tasting notes:
Golden hue; hoppy aroma; crisp, clean with heavy hop flavor. Food pairing:
Sandwiches and burgers.
Orange County IPA is an India
Pale Ale brewed with fruit. 7.1% ABV, 55.1 IBU. Tasting notes: Golden hue; lighter
hoppy flavor with sharp taste. This would be a good starter IPA.
Nuclear Chi Chis is a Session
IPA. 4.5% ABV, 41 IBU. Tasting notes: Golden hue; hoppy and citrus aroma; smooth,
subtle citrus flavor. Food pairing: Salad, grilled chicken, pork, and seafood.
Voo Doo American Stout “is a
full-bodied, dark brew that is rich and malty with plenty of roasted barley
character. This hearty stout is layered with flavors of roasted barley, chocolate,
and coffee coming from the highest quality imported malts. Its creamy long
lasting head completed the brew, tempting your taste buds to be spellbound.” 8.0%
ABV, 37.8 IBU. Tasting notes: Dark brown hue; coffee aroma, smooth roasted
coffee flavor. Food pairing: Sunday brunch.
Hop Juice Triple IPA “uses
Premium American2-Row and a touch of light crystal malt to create a solid malt
foundation. Five different hop varieties are used in Hop Juice. Now dry hopped
with Mosaic for great aroma. Starts out sweet and finishes with the crisp
bitterness of a Triple IPA.” 10.0% ABV, 100 IBU. Tasting notes: Reddish orange
hue; Strong hop aroma; strong hop flavor and hint of citrus flavor on the backend.
Food pairing: Steak, thick burger, and lamb.
The Herdsman is a barley
wine. 11.5% ABV, 84 IBU. Tasting notes: Red hue; Subtle licorice, herbaceous
flavor.
Roasted Peanut Stout is a
cream stout. 5.7% ABV, 20 IBU. Tasting notes: Dark brown hue; subtle peanut
flavor on the backend with a bite; imagine cola with peanut butter. Food
pairing: Chocolaty dessert like a brownie sundae.
Tasting Room Anniversary Ale
is a “West Coast Style IPA with pungent Australian hop flavors. Brewed with
premium pilsner malt and hopped with Ella, Galaxy, and Simcoe. A light bodied
refreshing IPA with aromas of passion fruit, papaya, and mango. Taste is bitter
tangerine, grapefruit, and pine. Finishes dry and crisp.” Tasting notes: Golden
hue; Bite on the front end, strong hoppy flavor, dry finish. Food pairing: Pork
and chicken.
El Governador Food Truck
offered Street Tacos (asada, pollo, and/or pastor) with rice and beans, Wet
Burrito (rice, beans, onions, cilantro, lettuce, sour cream, and topped with
sauce and cheese), and El Governador (grilled shrimp, onions, and bell peppers
on a crispy tortilla).
El Governador was pretty
tasty. It was nice to have some seafood since we were in San Clemente. These
were almost like loaded quesadillas as the cheese was gooey inside which helped
to keep the fillings from falling out as you ate it. I also liked the crispy
tortilla for a crunchy texture. The beans and rice were average like you would
find at any local Mexican restaurant.
The Street Tacos were pretty
good. The pollo, asada, and pastor were flavorful. The added onions and
cilantro gave it zingy and refreshing flavor.
Congratulations Left Coast
Brewery Company on 4 years of your tasting room! I wish you many more years to
come!
