Rocky Bottom Snack Bar at Breaker Bay Waterpark inside the Blue Harbor Resort & Conference Center

After a beautiful, yet chilly, walk along Lake Michigan, it was time to warm up. What better way than Breaker Bay Waterpark. It is a year-round indoor waterpark to enjoy, no matter what the weather is outside. It is always 84°F inside with 54,000 square feet of waterpark entertainment and activities. It is just big enough for the youngsters to feel free and independent, yet small enough so parents can supervise their children and feel safe. They have the only double surf simulator in eastern Wisconsin, The Riptide.

I didn’t bring my bathing suit and I didn’t have any children in tow but I wanted to try the Rocky Bottom Snack Bar for lunch. They have an assortment of kids favorites like burgers, chicken tenders, pizza, and fresh fruit. And for the grown-ups, a selection of beers and frozen cocktails are available.

Squeakers ($8) are fried cheese curds. I already had them in On the Rocks Bar & Grill, but I just can’t get enough of these. This order was prepared much better than the one in the restaurant. It was nicely golden brown on the outside and gooey on the inside. The reason they are called “squeakers” is due to the noise it makes against your teeth when you eat one. They really do squeak. I also found Heinz Marinara Sauce in a cute disposable cup. It paired nicely with the cheese curds in the same way as mozzarella sticks. Rating: 4.5/5

Zesty Cheese Fries ($6) are fries topped with cheese sauce, hot sauce, shredded cheese blend, and jalapenos. The fries could have stayed in the fryer a little longer to get them crispier on the outside so it could hold up to the cheese and hot sauce. As presented, the fries became soggy very fast. However, I loved combined use of cheese sauce with shredded cheese to amp up the cheese flavor. Not sure if hot sauce and jalapenos are both necessary; maybe one or the other. The vinegar from the hot sauce and pickled jalapenos is a little overwhelming. The spicy level was just right though, not too hot. Rating: 3/5

With my tummy full and sweat from the tropical temperature inside the waterpark, it was time to head back upstairs to cool off and get ready for my call to cook my dish for Johnsonville’s The Sausage Dome.
