Try the new Hatch chile menu items at The Habit Burger Grill and help No Kid Hungry at the same time

The Habit Burger Grill has been around since 1969 with the opening of the original location in Santa Barbara, CA. They have grown to more than 150 locations in California, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. The location in Orange opened its doors on December 9, 2015 in The Village at Orange (formerly known as the Orange Mall). It has the corner spot and has good visibility. It also has patio seating for those of you that need the California rays.

The Hatch chile is grown in New Mexico for a short period of time from late August to mid-September. The Hatch chile is a cross of three different chiles for the perfect blend of heat and flavor. Every year, Hatch chile fans swarm markets for roasting events and restaurants have been getting on the bandwagon with delicious menu items utilizing this unique chile. We are at the tail end of Hatch chile season, but The Habit Burger Grill extends the season with three menu items until the end of September.

Hatch Chile Charburger ($4.95) features bold southwest flavor with grilled Hatch green chiles, melted cheese, fire-roasted chipotle salsa, tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo on a toasted sesame seed bun. The Hatch chiles and the salsa make this an amazing burger. I am a BIG FAN of Hatch chiles and just in love with this burger. For an even better burger, get it on grilled sourdough. It will knock your socks off! Rating: 5/5

Hatch Chile Chicken Sandwich ($6.95) is made with lime-marinated, chargrilled chicken breast with grilled Hatch green chiles, melted cheese, fire-roasted chipotle salsa, tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo on grilled sourdough bread. It is a good chicken sandwich, but I think the chiles overpower the chicken a bit. But if you’re a Hatch chile fan and just not in the mood for a burger, this sandwich is a good option. Rating: 4/5

Hatch Chile Chicken Salad ($7.25) is made with lime-marinated, chargrilled chicken breast on top of hand-cut greens with feta cheese, diced tomatoes, carrots, black beans, chargrilled sliced Hatch chiles, fresh cilantro, and tossed in their house-made cilantro lime ranch dressing. This is a huge salad with huge flavors. It is the combination of Southwestern from the lime, black beans, chiles, and cilantro along with a Mediterranean twist of the feta and tomatoes. The chicken seems to stand out better in the salad versus the sandwich, at least for me. Rating: 5/5
