San Buenaventura was founded in 1782 by Father Junipero Serra. It
was the ninth of the California missions. Named after the Italian St.
Bonaventure, Ventura is nicknamed the “city of good fortune.” Directly across
from the mission is Mission Park where the Blues and BBQ Festival was held. Grills,
barbeques, and smokers were in full swing for a BBQ cook off.
Stages were set
for great music as well. Many attendees were prepared with their captain’s
chairs and staked out their spot for the day. Jonathon “Boogie” Long and The
Blues Revolution from Baton Rouge, LA pumped out some soulful
blues with strong vocals and awesome guitar playing. Waiting in line for food and
drinks couldn’t be more entertaining!

Hey! It’s a great combination of BBQ and music. In California there is also one BBQ restaurant in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. They have been serving up the best Mesquite Bar-B-Q’d chicken and tri-tip for over 20 years. And you know what they cook with only real Mesquite charcoal imported from Mexico.
