Driving down to San Diego from Orange County midweek
before the afternoon traffic starts is such an easy drive. It’s beautiful as
well with ocean views to the west. As you make your way to the downtown area,
the hotels and buildings create a beautiful skyline. Marriott Marquis San Diego
Marina is part of the skyline. They are just about to finish their $107 million
expansion of their events space and will be the largest space on the West Coast
with over 280,000 square feet. The beautiful, brand-new two-level stacked
ballroom has a 16-screen video wall and Swarovski crystal ceiling installation
that can be seen from the street, Marina Terrace (a grand outdoor area right on
the bay), and Marina Walk (a stunning walkway along the marina). Grand opening
is scheduled for June 28, 2016!
- Travel tip: The easiest way to park when checking in at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina is by valet. They have garage parking as well but the spaces are a bit limited. There is also lot parking behind the hotel too, but it is quite a walk to the hotel if lugging bags and suitcases.
The lobby is
stunning with it’s tropical, oceanic feel with floor-to-ceiling windows giving
off a feeling that you’re on a tropical island. The front desk staff is
attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Check-in is quick and then you’re on
your way to your room. The tropical, oceanic theme continues from the lobby
along meeting corridors to the elevators. You really start to forget you are in
San Diego.
The 1 King or 2
Double, Bay view, Balcony Room is 400 square feet with central
air-conditioning. Amenities include: chair, alarm clock, in-room safe, work
desk with ergonomic chair and electrical outlets, iron and ironing board,
coffee maker with an array of coffees and teas, Bath and Body Works bathroom
amenities, hair dryer, lighted make-up mirror, robes, phone with voicemail and
speakerphone, internet access, and flat-screen TV with premium movie channels. These
rooms are also non-smoking. The balcony is 50 square-feet with two chairs and a
small table, ample for lounging during the day - enjoy a morning cup of coffee
or evening night cap. The view is breathtaking – the mirrored tower on the
opposite side reflects the bay and marina. To the west is the marina, San Diego
Bay, and Coronado Island. To the east, is a view of the Gaslamp Quarter. Below
is a beautiful birds-eye view of the pool area that beckons like a tropical
oasis.
- Travel tip: When celebrating something special like a birthday or anniversary, contact the front desk or concierge and have a special basket delivered to your room. Wine and chocolates for the sweetie? Beer and jerky for the hubby?
