FINS Poke Fusion has the first ever drive-thru poke shop in Fullerton, California

Last year, brothers Peter and David Cho teamed up with restauranteurs Moby Duncan and Garo Mardirossian to bring poke to Mission Viejo with their FINS Poke Fusion. If you have read my blog posts about the surge of poke in the mainland and being a native of the Big Island of Hawaii, I take my poke pretty seriously. Although, I consider FINS Poke Fusion “haole-style” poke, I am rather impressed with my visit to the new Fullerton location.

This first-ever drive-thru poke shop in the world opened on August 22, 2016, bringing their concept to us North OCers. The location is perfectly situated on the busy downtown stretch of Harbor Boulevard which sees lots of business and college traffic. I visited this location on Taco Tuesday and this had to be my best Taco Tuesday experience ever.

I also like the new décor which has a more laid-back local Hawaiian feel with white walls to keep the inside bright.

They have the BYO Poke Bowls to choose from but since it was Taco Tuesday, we opted for tacos and tostada style. This haole-style poke pairs perfectly with the crispy corn taco shells and crispy flour tortillas.

Here are some combinations you might like to try:

Tostada (Big Kahuna size $11.50 + $1 tostada) filled with mixed greens, spicy tuna, imitation krab, wakame (seaweed), cucumbers, avocado, masago, sesame seeds, and Kilauea sauce. The tostada adds a light crispy texture and does not interfere with the flavors of the fish. You can eat it like a salad or start breaking off pieces of the tostada to dip into the spicy tuna like tartare. The sauce is tangy and adds a balance of acidity to the mix. Rating: 4.8/5

Taco ($3 regular price, $2.50 on Taco Tuesday, or add one to your bowl for $1.50) filled with ahi, spicy krab, wakame, green onion, shoyu, masago, and sesame seeds. I’m not a big imitation krab fan, but loved it mixed with the spicy sauce. It adds a nice contrast to the silky ahi. The toppings all work well together for that taco feel – crunchy, salty, sweet, and spicy. Rating: 4.5/5

Taco filled with shrimp, spicy tuna, wakame, green onion, shoyu, masago, and sesame seeds. The spicy tuna overpowers the shrimp so I would get the either spicy tuna by itself or mix the shrimp with the ahi next time. The toppings work well together for that taco feel – crunchy, salty, and spicy. Rating: 4/5

Taco filled with salmon, octopus, wakame, green onion, shoyu, masago, and sesame seeds. This is my favorite mix of seafood. The salmon provides a smooth buttery flavor and soft texture while the octopus contrasts with its briny and chewy texture. The toppings work well together for that taco feel – crunchy and salty. Rating: 5/5

Taco filled with albacore, plain krab meat, wakame, green onion, shoyu, masago, and sesame seeds. This one was a little on the bland side. The krab meat might work better with spicy tuna. The toppings still work well together for that taco feel – crunchy and salty. Rating: 4/5

  1. Oh this looks absolutely wonderful, although I am not sure I would like the salmon.

    1. Salmon is my favorite raw fish, but I can see how some people do not like it. Next time you're in the OC, you'll have to try it. :)
