3rd Annual Santa Barbara Food & Wine Weekend returns April 15-17, 2016



The Bacara Resort & Spa and The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and theCulinary Arts are pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Santa Barbara Food & Wine Weekend. The festivities start on Friday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17 and are set within the luxurious surroundings of Bacara Resort. The event will showcase the distinct tastes, sights, and sounds of Santa Barbara along with culinary talent from across the country.

Chef Richard Blais will be headlining this year’s festivities. You may know him as the winner of Bravo’s “Top Chef All-Stars”. His culinary training has taken him through some of the world’s most esteemed kitchens including The French Laundry, Daniel, and Chez Panisse. He is also the owner and operator of Juniper & Ivy and The Crack Shack in San Diego.

Here are the schedule of events:

Friday, April 15
  • Opening Night Wine Reception from 7:00 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. in the Bacara Screening Room & Ballroom Terrace – Join special guests John Gray (Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History) and Russ Parsons (former Los Angeles Times Food Editor) for the opening night tribute to Julia Child. After the screening and audience Q&A, raise a glass to Julia’s lasting legacy at an extensive wine tasting reception presented by Santa Barbara County Vintners’Association, paired with a culinary preview of Bacara’s highly anticipated new restaurant, Angel Oak, and live music. $125 per person, includes dinner stations

Saturday, April 16
  • Saturday Morning Breakfast from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. in the Santa Ynez Room at Bacara – Join award-winning pastry chef and all around authority on baking, Jim Dodge, to learn the art of making perfect blueberry muffins. A full buffet breakfast will be served during Jim’s baking demonstration including a sample of his ultimate blueberry muffin. $50 per person, includes buffet breakfast
  • Dining Out California Style and Restaurateurs’ Panel from 10:15 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. in the Bacara Salons – Restaurateurs’ panel and tasting to discuss Santa Barbara’s most anticipated new restaurant and national culinary trends. $20 per person
  • Artisan Collaborations Panel Discussion from 10:15 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. in the Bacara Salons - Panel discussion and tasting on the latest artisanal collaborations between local Santa Barbara area producers. $20 per person
  • Paleo Cooking Demonstration with Danielle Walker from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. in the Bacara Salons – Paleo cooking demonstration and tasting with Danielle Walker, author of The New York Times Best Selling cookbook, Against All Grain. $35 per person
  • A Taste of Ojai Cooking Demonstration from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. in the Bacara Salons – “A Taste of Ojai” cooking demonstration and tasting with cookbook author and California Chef Robin Goldstein. $35 per person
  • Central Coast Farm-Style Lunch with Zoe Nathan & Josh Loeb from 12:30 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Ocean Lawn at Bacara – Enjoy culinary talents of acclaimed baker, chef, and cookbook author Zoe Nathan, alongside her husband, Josh Loeb, co-owners of the acclaimed Los Angeles restaurants, Huckleberry, Milo + Olive, Rustic Canyon, Sweet Rose Creamery, Cassia, and Esters Wine Shop & Bar. With a shared passion for artisan cooking, both sweet and savory, Zoe will present a locally-inspired lunch that highlights her signature pastries and breads, along with other favorite recipes from their restaurants. $75 per person, plus tax & gratuity
  • The New York Times Cooking Conversation from 2:15 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. in the Screening Room at Bacara – Join award-winning The New York Times cooking writers, Kim Severson (based in Atlanta) and Julia Moskin (based in New York City) for an in-depth discussion on home cooking trends North and South as well as across the country. See how far we have come since Julia Child started influencing home cooks’ thinking in the kitchen up to the cutting-edge of how we cook at home today with two of America’s most admired food journalists. $20 per person
  • Charcuterie 101Cooking Demo from 3:45 P.M. to 4:45 P.M. in the Bacara Salons – Charcuterie 101 cooking demonstration and tasting to explore the art of whole animal eating with Justin West, Chef & Co-Owner of Julienne and Wildwood Kitchen restaurants. $35 per person
  • Sea at Table Cooking Demo from 3:45 P.M. to 4:45 P.M. in the Bacara Salons – Sea to Table cooking demonstration and tasting with Chef Budi Kazali of Ballard Inn & Restaurant and Krista Harris of Edible Santa Barbara. $35 per person
  • Saturday Movie Premiere from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the Bacara Screening Room – Movie premiere presented by the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. $20 per person
  • Saturday Night Grand Dinner from 7:30 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. in the Bacara Ballroom – Join the winner of Bravo’s “Top Chef All-Stars,” successful chef, restaurateur, James Beard Award-nominated cookbook author, and television personality, Richard Blais, for a truly special evening of food and wine. A Chef’s reception and four-course Grand Dinner with wine pairings will highlight Blais’ refined approach to American cuisine. The Grand Dinner menu will pay tribute to Julia Child, America’s most beloved epicurean, while reflecting Blais’ distinct style. $199 per person, plus tax & gratuity

Sunday, April 17
  • Neighborhood Market Tour from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. in the Bacara Courtyard – Taste your way through the region’s most talked about culinary neighborhoods within the beautiful surroundings of Bacara. This delightful journey includes live music, farmers’ market shopping and the chance to sample more than 30 restaurant, produce, and artisan offerings. $55 for adults, $20 for kids
